The Four Hikeateers
by Fauzia Simjee McClure
Chris, Ramona, Karen and I got together at 8 am on Wed, July 8th for a hike up Horse Creek Trail. Ramona drove us to Mono Village where our hike was to begin. While driving on the dirt road, she maneuvered through several large ponds which had developed from the recent rains. The drive was rather challenging as the ponds were consumed with drenched wood chips. The van rocked back and forth as we made our way through Lakeshore Drive, reminding me of one of the rides at the county fair.

Autumn Splendor!
by Fauzia Simjee McClure
The breeze feels cool and refreshing as it brushes against my skin
The sun’s golden rays are less intense
Yet, splendidly reflect the rich colors of autumn
Which are so very vivid, and out here, so immense

SEPTEMBER CALM
by Fauzia Simjee McClure
Summer is slowly drifting away
Yet, some afternoons remain warm, until late into the day
The temperature is perfectly comfortable, amidst the cool lake waters
Not too hot, not too cold, I don’t really need a sunhat or my warm sweaters

SO WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT FISHING?
By Fauzia Simjee McClure
In celebration of fishing season opening just a couple of weeks ago, I thought it fitting to write about, what else, but fishing! Quite frankly, I didn’t know anything about fishing until I met my husband, Robert. The only fish I ever ate were the ones straight out of the supermarket, and most of those were typically the previously frozen sort! No one in my family ever went fishing, though we all enjoyed eating fish tremendously. Growing up, my mom prepared fried fish almost every Friday. She served it with her perfectly cooked aromatic, saffron-laced basmati rice and hearty lentil and squash stew. My sisters and I were responsible for peeling the potatoes which were thinly sliced, spiced, pan-fried, and complemented the special Friday meal…I can taste it all right now! Click here to read more.
– Browns Stuck by Ramona Reed
At the end of fishing season last year Robert and I noticed several large Browns stuck in the pools in between the lakes. We called Fish & Game (and Norm) to inquire about relocating the Browns so that they do not freeze and die as the winter approaches.
Fish & Game agreed to come out and did we have a heck of a time (3 or 4 hours) trying to capture these slippery suckers. Who came out to help were – Robert & Fazia, Susie, me, the Fish and Game guy and Rockey the photographer.
Three Browns were saved and numerous rainbows. It was a great feeling and amazing teamwork. This city girl, first of all, has never wore waders, been in freezing waters and mud for hours in the rain and snow and never felt so good at the end of the day. It was by far one of the most memorable days of my life and one I always treasure.
