Good day to all TLPOA Members,

I know we recently sent out some reminder dates, so I apologize for any redundancy.

At our annual community meeting, to be held on July 5 at the Twin Lakes Firehouse (9 AM), we will have a couple of guest speakers. One will be Bridgeport Fire Chief Nick Way. If Chief Way is not out responding to any wildfires, he will speak about the Mono County ambulance program and all the recent improvements at the firehouse. We will also have Daniel Gammons from Fish and Wildlife on hand to discuss issues regarding bears in our community. My hope is we can share the land rather than having to relocate these majestic animals.

Please remember to bring your own chair to the meeting.

If you have any issues regarding our community, please email me. I would like the board to discuss your concerns beforehand to help the meeting move along quicker. I am trying to keep community members from suffering the heat of the day. If you do not care to address beforehand, I still encourage you to bring up any matters at our meeting. My email address is mayorcarlos@verizon.net (or you can reply all to this message); you can also reach me at 661-802-9963.

If you plan on being a Twin Lakes Property Owners Association member and have not paid your dues, you can do so at the meeting. The deadline will be July 10, 2025. The reason for establishing a July deadline is to simplify our record keeping.

If you plan on attending our community meeting and are able to do so, please bring a new unwrapped toy to donate to the Bridgeport Fire Department, which will distribute these toys to those less fortunate within the Bridgeport area at Christmas. We can present Chief Way with the toys at our meeting.
Other options: You can bring a toy to our potluck picnic and raffle (August 30). Toys will be accepted from June 1 through Labor Day weekend. I will gladly accept toys at my home (187 Westwood Drive), or I will come to your Twin Lakes home to collect them.

If you notice any street signs down throughout our community, please notify me so I can notify Ron Vilarino and Art Worthington. Ron and Art head up our sign committee. (Thank you to both.) Street signs are vital in case of an emergency, as they help guide emergency personnel.

Vouchers for the Bridgeport transfer station (dump) are available from Patrick Cates, our Fire Safety Council chair, and also from Chief Way at the Bridgeport Fire Station. The vouchers are good for brush and tree branches you may be hauling to the compost area of the dump.

This year our TLPOA Adopt-a-Highway event will be held on Saturday, July 12. Meeting location will be at the Twin Lakes Firehouse (across from the laundromat) at 6:30 AM.
For details, please see the attached flyer from Ron Vilarino and Therese Brady, who head up our Adopt-a-Highway committee. (Thank you to both.) There’s a link on the flyer to a required safety video.

Community member Rob Lewallen is mostly retired from designing and building custom energy-efficient homes. Rob replaced several homes (including his own) that were destroyed by the 2003 and 2007 San Diego wildfires. Rob says that if you replace your cabin’s windows with dual-glazed windows, make sure at least one of the panes is tempered. Doing this will prevent heavy embers from crashing through the glass and burning your cabin from within. Many fire codes throughout the state of California now require tempered glass. Thank you, Rob, for providing this information. Regarding the property (brush and tree removal) located at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Aspen Drive, the following is the reply I received from Aaron Coogan (Forest Service District Ranger) on May 13, 2025:

Hello, Mr. Gomez,

My forester is returning from training next week, and I’ll have him take a look to see if we have any existing decision framework for the lot in question. If we do not have a valid decision authorizing a treatment for that area, we would need to conduct additional National Environmental Policy Act analysis. We may also be able to implement some treatment under the Forest-Wide Prescribed Fire EA when it is finalized and signed, but that would be a process that would take some time; it is currently in the objection phase of scoping.

I pray God blesses each of you while protecting our beautiful community.

Carlos Gomez
