President’s July letter, part 1 — membership dues and election results
Good day to all members of the Twin Lakes Property Owners Association. I hope you all are having a safe and blessed summer.
Important reminder: September 4, 2024, is the deadline for membership dues. If you have not already paid, you can mail your check for $100, payable to TLPOA, to TLPOA, P.O. Box 623, Bridgeport, CA 93517. Or you can pay online at our website: https://twinlakespropertyowners.com/membership-dues-form/.
On Friday, July 5, 2024, the association conducted elections during our annual membership meeting held at the Twin Lakes Firehouse.
Although I honestly had no intention of continuing as your president, I am humbled to do so for another year — which means we will need a new president next summer. Please consider taking on this rewarding position. For those in attendance, you heard the reasons I did not want to be president for another term. There are two reasons I accepted the nomination: Patrick Cates and his wife, Virginia.
After seeing and hearing about the effort that Paddy and Ginny put forth to ensure our community is safer with regards to fire mitigation, I wanted to offer my full support. Having our community qualify and be recognized as a Firewise neighborhood is job No. 1 as far as I am concerned.
Some homeowners may qualify for a wildfire mitigation discount through their insurance provider, but more important is that we as a community will be removing fire hazards. Please see my next president’s letter — coming soon — for more detailed information.
I was also very pleased during our elections to have vice president Heather Green accept the position of member at large, as this position has been vacant far too long.
Dave Holcomb accepted the nomination for vice president. I personally look forward to working with Dave. I understand he is full of knowledge as our resident historian and a former TLPOA president.
David Lawrence is continuing his term, doing terrific work as our treasurer. We are grateful for his expertise and diligence.
I was also very pleased that we elected a replacement for our secretary, Susan Cohen. I feel the secretary has the toughest job of all of us: She has to maintain membership rosters and get information out to all in a timely manner. I can’t thank Susan enough for her valued assistance during the past couple of years.
I am now looking forward to working with Wendy Marcus as she accepted the position of secretary for our association (her second stint). As many of you know. Wendy also updates our website (twinlakespropertyownersassociation.com). Should you have any information or a fun tidbit you would like posted, please send it to her directly (wmarcus62@gmail.com).
As many of you are aware, we currently have several fires burning in our state. Although it has been very hot at Twin Lakes, I was happy to see several of our members removing and hauling out brush during the Fourth of July week. Please make sure the fire hydrants around your homes are free and clear of brush and are easy to spot.
If your insurance company has not already done so, it might ask you to have a defensible space between your home and the surrounding brush and/or trees. Removing small plants such as sage from around your home and trimming all low-hanging branches can slow the spread of a fire. Ideally, all plants, trees, and mulch should be at a minimum of 5 feet from your home.
Should you have any questions or require feedback, feel free to text me at 661-802-9963.
Looking forward to a safe and glorious 2024–2025 while serving you the best I can.
Sincerely,
Carlos Gomez
TLPOA president
